Does not share all parts with the Made In Japan Mazda3. For instance..... THE AIR FILTER.

Looks exactly the same, but has a different part number. I wonder why....

The Mexican version is approved for use by the Federales.

Different emissions standards prolly.

Probably just logistics, in that they can track the parts to different parts assembly points or something.

Nah, federal is federal.

I’m comparing two identical cars sold to the same US state that came from either country.

But why force the dealer to stock two different common replacement parts for what’s pretty much the same car? Boggles the mind. What little there is left.

Despite sounding similar “logistics” isn’t formed from the root “Logic” but from the acronym

LOG It Several Times InCase Shit-happens.

Ah, I see I see.

Since they’re different assembly plants, they may just have different assembly codes or something.

Is the part number for the air box the same for both models?

No, and OMG the beginning part number code is PELE

I guess the cars really are a little different then. They might both be sold in some places, buy maybe only only one is sold in others.

My Corolla had different PCV valves depending on where/when it was made. One was slightly larger and was standard nut with a different thread than the metric and more common one. I had the one that you had to search for on the Internet because parts stores didn't stock it. I think I could have just swapped valve covers because the gasket was the same.

NHTSA requirement that says that all parts in use to be uniquely identified by manufacturer and installation location.

*Looks at GM part catalog for the Chevrolet*.

Don’t get me started on Mazda’s “VALVE,SOLENOID”

No matter if its EGR control, VIS, DPFE, IMRC, or any other emissions related component, it’s in the catalog as VALVE. SOLENOID.

Hmm. I want one either way. I love the new Mazdas. All of them. But I love the old ones too (like mine).

Should tell me what the heck it is instead of making me look it up by location and GODFORBID if there’s three of them on one bracket and the shop I’m talking too can’t decide if left is LEFT or if left is the driver’s side from where they’re standing under the hood.

Mine does. But mine was long before the Mexican factory was thought about. My car was actually built in Hiroshima. For a while, my best friend drove a Mitsubishi built in Nagasaki. Irony.

The thing I want to know now, do cars made in Hofu have the same parts as those in Hiroshima? I’d imagine so.

Maybe thats how they smuggle drugs now. Hide them in extra large air filters till the cars cross into the US.

All I can say is I hope its not the cabin air filter. If they forget to retrive the package from one of the cars, someone’s gonna OD on cocaine :D

Is there much of a quality difference between the Mexican 3 and the Japanese 3?

Nissan are the same with the D40 Navara , depending if built in Thailand or Spain.

it’s a major pain in the arse as you have to get the VIN to work out which one you have.
